Our class identified and associated the sound of /ng/ and /le/. We practiced decoding and encoding words with these two digraphs. Our class also identified the digraphs /er/, /ur/ and /ir/. We learned how these three digraphs make the same sound but may be found in different parts of a word. The last digraphs we learned this week were /ow/ and /ou/. Our class learned that these two digraphs can make two different sounds and developed an understanding of where we would see these digraphs in words. We recognized, spelled, and developed an understanding of our new memory words: do, have, show, how, me, a. We developed an understanding on what the words healthy, opinion, compare, and usually mean. Our class developed an understanding on how to use the verbs are and is.
This week our class also discussed and compared what synonyms and antonyms were. Our class practiced writing pattern poems too!
Our class developed an understanding of how to add three addends. We practiced writing addition sentences to solve word problems and reviewed all of our skills in addition to wrap up Chapter 2.
As a class, we reviewed the season of advent. We discussed the importance of the Advent wreath and learned where the first Advent wreath was made (Germany). We began to make our own advent wreaths.
Our class explored hibernation. We compared a deer and a bear during the Winter time. Our class learned how each animal survives the Winter time. Our class explored other animals who hibernate. We learned which animals may sleep the whole time (bear) and what animals might awake to have a weekly snack (squirrels). We also learned what migration was.
Our class learned what it was to write an opinion vs a fact.
